Last week, Carrie — who is the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds, 84, and late singer Eddie Fisher — was flying from London to LA when she went into cardiac arrest and reportedly stopped breathing.
Paramedics immediately removed Carrie from the flight and rushed her to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where she was treated for a heart attack. She passed away in the hospital four days later.
On Christmas Day, the actress' mother, Debbie, took to Twitter to provide fans with an update on her daughter's health. "Carrie is in stable condition. If there is a change, we will share it... I thank you for your prayers and good wishes."
Carrie began her showbiz career in the early 1970s and made her film debut in the 1975 film Shampoo. She rose to mega-fame when she first portrayed Princess Leia in 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. She reprised her iconic role in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), and Star Wars: Episode VIII (set to hit theaters in December 2017).
She also appeared in movies such as The Blues Brothers (1980), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003), and The Women (2008).
Our thoughts are with Carrie and her family during this difficult time.
